Baseball with Elena

We took Elena Likhovtseva(Pro-Tennis Player) out to Stonehouse for some baseball fun on a rare day off while the rest of the Capital's team traveled on to Newport for their match on Monday...she opted to stay and spend the day hanging out with the family. She was dying to try her skills on the baseball field, and of course she was quite good! She, Cole, & Rick all hit home runs, but I must say, I surprised my family by not being too bad myself. Maybe my boys did get their talent from me!! LOL Even Carsyn tried her hand at the plate with a little help from her big bro! It was a nice way to spend a relaxing day!
We did have an incident that was quite exhilarating! A foul ball flew over the fence to where we were sitting, no joke! If I hadn't pulled Elena out of the way, she would have taken it on the top of her head...could you imagine our having to call Lonnie and tell him Elena wasn't going to be able to play in Newport because she got hit in the head with a baseball! He would have killed us, but my quick reflexes saved the day...instead the ball ended up hitting Carsyn in the nose after bouncing around the bleachers a few times! Sorry Carsyn, but I know my priorities! We all had a good laugh!!

From Baseball to Tennis to Football

We are a little sad, but after playing for 4 days in a row, Cole's all-star team finished their season with a heartbreaking 8-9 loss...but it was exciting while it lasted! Cole finished the regular season with a .753 batting average; during the All-Star tournament he hit .560, pitched 7 scoreless innings, & hit a 3-run homerun! He made an amazing "superman" style catch at 1st to keep the opposing team from scoring with bases loaded...he is so fun to watch!

Now Cole, Rick, and Chris are gearing up for football which starts in 2 weeks...until then, we have the Capitals Tennis Matches thru July to keep up occupied!!

Back from China

Now that I have recovered from jetlag, I am finally getting back into life. Kendal and I had an amazing experience in China with Galena Street East for 2 weeks! It is difficult to put into words the memories we will cherish for a lifetime. I loved the country, the people, the history...could have done without the squaters and only eating chinese food, but I am ready to go back! Here is a link to all the pictures we took on our travels.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day Spa!

Carsyn's Kindergarten class pampered their moms for mother's day...as you can see we had a good time!

My Pitchers!

Cole pitched a perfect game thru the 4th inning before his coach pulled him because of pitch count! Amazing...he faced and struck out 13 batters with only 40 pitches! Way to go, C-dug!!
Chris pitched his first game and did a great job, he closed the game out with facing only 5 batters! Chris is coming along quickly, he is a power hitter and a great fielder!

I have Cousins

I know it sounds funny, but meeting my 1st cousin, Jess, (she's 27) for the first time was like finding a long lost family heirloom...my sisters and I really missed not having cousins around. It was a thrill to see the "Wertz" name on someone else's luggage...we were like, oh my gosh, that's our name. My dad was a little over protective of making sure she went to bed early...but it was wonderful to see how pleased he was that we were together. We have 6 1st cousins from my dad's only brother. Jess started emailing back and forth with Brandi and the next thing you know, she booked a flight to come meet us...quite a brave thing to do without knowing what we were like...yes, we are weird, but in a normal way! One of her brothers looks just like what "our" brother would look like, you could see a lot of my dad's traits. It was so fun, I hated for her to go, but know that this is only the first step in bringing the Wertz cousins together! There is something to be said about family...blood is thicker than water!!!
